'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' cast news: director in talks with actor for new role

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" director James Gunn has revealed in a recent Periscope broadcast that the casting for the highly-anticipated Marvel movie is in full swing. It will be through this casting that the interplanetary heroes will get a new member to welcome aboard the ship.

However, it is still unknown which characters from the comics will be fighting the evils in space alongside Star-Lord and his motley crew. To narrow down the choices (there are a lot), it is important to take into account Gunn's "true hopes" to add two female characters to the mix.

One of the characters, he said at one point on Twitter, is his favorite Marvel character. Unfortunately, Gunn did not go into detail about who that individual is or what he or she is like. Guesses, after the pityingly scanty clues, point to Phyla-Vell, Mantis, and Angela or Moondragon, who are all actual guardians.

Many believe that it would be great to see Phyla-Vell's super strength or Mantis' telepathic/ fighting skills. A super-bodied Moondragon or Angela's assassin and cosmic bounty dealings will make things more explosive in the film.

The identity of this character remains a mystery but what fans picked up from the director's chitchat via Periscope about this is that he is already negotiating with a certain actor in joining the sequel. Still, there is no clue on who that person is or what he or she will be up to.

If Gunn was talking about the addition of a new villain in the movie, speculations are rampant on Adam Warlock and Kovac getting a big screen counterpart in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2." Actor Al Pacino's name (Gunn would like to work with him) is also being broached.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Yondu will be an imperative character in the film. Not only will his return give life to Gunn's plans of delving into Star-Lord a.k.a. Peter Quill's family background (Yondu was a father figure to him), he is also fated to be a member of the team in the comics.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be shown in theaters starting May 5, 2017.
