'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' spoilers, cast news: Benicio Del Toro to return

Benicio del Toro as the Collector in "Guardians of the Galaxy"Marvel Studios

Among the many characters back for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is Benicio Del Toro, who played the role of Collector in the original 2014 Marvel blockbuster hit. Zoe Saldana, who will be back as the illustrious alien assassin Gamora in the movie, was the one to break the news.

In a video on the actress's husband's Facebook page, Saldana initially praised Del Toro's performance in the new crime thriller film "Sicario" before she said, "I'll see you on Guardians," confirming that the actor will reprise his nonaligned role in the movie.

This comes as good news for fans who want to see more of the Collector in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." According to Comicbook.com, the actor stated back in June that his comeback in the James Gunn-directed superhero flick was still up in the air.

Nevertheless, many trusted that Del Toro will be back. A lot of the previous rumors flying around even claim that his character may end up being revealed as Star-Lord's long-lost father, a mystery that Gunn promised to deal with in the much-awaited sequel.

But that is unlikely. There is also the question of how significant Collector will be in the movie. As some fans may have already heard, Del Toro was tapped to play an undisclosed role in "Star Wars: Episode 8." From what has been reported so far, Del Toro's part in the Disney/Lucasfilm franchise will be huge.

There aren't any solid details that will point to what the Collector will be up to in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." But Saldana's enthusiasm in working with him again is a start.

Nonetheless, fans will just have to wait and see to learn more about Collector's return in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Shooting for the Marvel movie starts in February in Atlanta, with the flick slated for a May 5, 2017 release.
