'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' spoilers, plot news: Details from director James Gunn

Director James Gunn, who is currently working on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," took to Twitter to respond to several questions in which he revealed a few important details regarding the film. One thing he stressed is that the film will not be introducing a ton of new characters in order to further develop those introduced in the first film.

"Not too many, that's for sure! I want all of our characters to get MORE personal time than they did in the 1st film," reads Gunn's tweet.

According to a report from Screen Rant, the director will be introducing at least one new member to the Guardians but that may be the extent of it. The report also reminds fans that Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) will remain as the only human character in the movie.

This would make sense as humans, in the MCU, have only been recently exposed to aliens in the first "Avengers" film, meaning Quill's abduction in "Guardians of the Galaxy" was a special event and not something that happens often, thus limiting the number of humans that could exist in the area of the galaxy that the Guardians reside in.

Of the few new characters that will make it into the film, Gunn confirmed that the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) will not be one of them.

Gunn immediately posted, "I will comment on it now (as I've done before) - there is zero chance you will see Hulk in GotGVol2."

As previously reported, the Hulk was set to appear in "Captain America: Civil War" and was later written out because the studios reportedly have bigger plans for the character. It was speculated he may appear in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" even as a mere cameo to set up a "World War Hulk" storyline but Gunn's statement has officially discredited this rumor.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.
