"Guardians of the Galaxy" is preparing to shoot its sequel. Writer-director James Gunn and some of the cast members have posted updates on social media to tell fans that they are about to start filming very soon.

Earlier this month, Gunn posted a photo of the finished script via his Instagram account, while Dave Bautista took to Twitter over the weekend to post a picture of him at the gym as he prepared to get back into "#Draxmode."

While Gunn and the cast have been keeping plot lines tightly under wraps, it was recently reported that Star-Lord's team is about to get three new members.

A source close to production told Geek.com that Peter Quill will be joined by Yondu (Michael Rooker), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and newcomer Mantis, who will be reportedly played by Pom Klementieff. In the comics, Mantis has exceptional martial arts skills, is both a telepath and an empath, and can even control plants and vegetation and she helps Groot grow after he was turned into a twig. Gunn has yet to comment on the report.

Expected to return alongside Bautista is Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Vin Diesel as Groot. As of the moment, not much is known about the sequel's plot, but it was reported that the movie will be more emotional than the first film as Gunn told Collider at the 41st Annual Saturn Awards that it will focus on some of the characters.

"It's a more emotional movie. I think it's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters," said Gunn.

The director also revealed that moviegoers should expect to "learn a lot about fathers" as rumors claim that Star-Lord's father will be introduced in the film. Last month, it was reported that Kurt Russell was in talks to play Peter Quill's father.

 "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2" premieres on May 5, 2017.
