The upcoming sequel to "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be premiering soon in 2017. Part of the movie's plot is Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) — a.k.a. Star-Lord — reuniting with his biological father.

The first of Marvel's three blockbusters that will premiere in 2017 is "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," set to be released on May 5. The upcoming Marvel movie is directed by James Gunn and according to him, it will not be as death-stricken as the first installment.

According to Den of Geek, Gunn acknowledged that "Guardian of the Galaxy" was second to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in terms of the number of people who died on screen. When Gunn was asked on Twitter if the sequel will top in number of deaths, he gave a straightforward answer, "No."

The reason for the movie's decreased carnage is because it will be focusing on the relationships between the main characters. The biggest relationship that will be put in the spotlight is the one between Peter Quill and his father — Ego the Living Planet — which will be played by Kurt Russell.

Pratt said, "You're going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family. You're talking about a guy who's been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He'll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head," as reported by Empire Online.

Ego the Living Planet is described by Gunn as "an ancient cosmic being who has been on the edges of the universe for aeons by himself." He will not be in planet form in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," but in a human form composed from humanoid parts. Russel even teased at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con that he even has male genitalia.

"Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2" premieres on May 5, 2017.
