"Half-Life 3" has already gained a mythical appearance, and adding to the rumor mill is the anticipation that the next instalment would be done in virtual reality.

Early this year, Valve magnate Gabe Newell has disclosed that he and the company is open to the possibility of another "Half-Life" game. Speaking to Geoff Keighley in a podcast called Gameslice, and reported by game community site Polygon, Newell chose not to comment on any specific commitment for a next "Half-Life game. However, he said that if the clamor inside the company is that strong, then they would have to learn from past mistakes and have another stab at "Half-Life 3".

Newell said, "The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did]."

For those hardcore fans that waited years in the sidelines and are now losing hope for a third "Half-Life", a recent report seems to revive them in expecting for an upcoming sequel.

Recently, Valve has disclosed that it is working with HTC to develop a VR headset. Fresh from their surprise at the Game Developers' Conference, it seems that Valve is keen to keep whetting fans' appetites with teasers connected to "Half-Life". This time, Valve experimented with VR using characters, settings, and design from "Half-Life".

According to Kotaku, Valve is keen on upgrading to the next level of gaming for their upcoming titles. Does this signify a VR version for "Half-Life 3"? According to Valve programmer Jeep Barnett, the chance is 50-50. "We're not saying, 'no,'" he said, "but we don't know what the right thing is. Our most precious resource is time, and we don't have enough time for people to do everything."
