Halloween 2018 news: terrifying new trailer shows Jamie Lee Curtis thirsty for revenge; reboot skips previous Halloweens

If you're planning to go see the new Halloween movie when it releases this October, be prepared to jump out of your seat more than a few times.

The first trailer for the rebooted latest installment in the classic horror franchise has been released and it looks absolutely terrifying.

Jamie Lee Curtis is back as Laurie Strode, by now a grandmother, but as fearful as ever that Michael may one day harm again despite being locked up in prison.

The reboot takes place 40 years after Michael was imprisoned but it essentially ignores every other Halloween movie that released after the 1978 original.

The trailer shows a documentary crew going to interview Michael in prison but things take a terrible turn when Michael escapes from a transportation bus and makes his way back to Haddonfield.

Laurie has spent the intervening years preparing herself for another showdown with Michael, by now 61-years-old but no less evil, and tells officers she actually prayed for him to get out of prison just so she could kill him herself.

The 2018 installment of Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green, who co-penned the script with Danny McBride.

As they're disregarding all of the previous Halloween movies except the original, fans need to forget about Laurie and Michael being siblings.

But in an interview with Collider, Green promised there are some subtle odes to all of the skipped Halloween movies in their new one, although he emphasized the point with this reboot is to start afresh.

He said: "Anyone who's a fan of any of these films will find nice little Easter Eggs acknowledging our salute to the filmmakers that have preceded us, in the stories and mythologies as they've unfolded. For us, it was a clean slate type of opportunity, where if there was a little inspiration or mirror image of something it's very subtle in the movie because we want to start fresh for a new generation but with great appreciation for the previous."

Halloween opens in theaters just before the real Halloween on October 19, 2018.
