'Halo 5' Collector's Edition; Digital code can be exchanged for a physical disc

Fans who are looking to purchase the "Halo 5" Collector's Edition package can now choose to exchange the digital code found in it for a physical disc of the game.

The announcement came directly from game's developer 343 Industries.

According to the developer, those who will choose to swap the digital code for a disc will be glad to know that the transaction itself comes with no extra cost.

Prior to the news concerning the possible exchanges, both Microsoft and 343 Industries have been taking heat from fans for their decision to include a digital code instead of a disc together with the "Halo 5" Collector's Edition package. 343 Industries even cited fan feedback as one of the reasons why they have ultimately chosen to provide the swapping option.

According to Polygon, the reason the digital code was included instead of the disc was because 343 Industries and the other people behind the game wanted to give players the chance to already preload the game prior to its launch. Doing so would have meant that players who were done with preloading could start playing right away, but fans were still unhappy with the move.

Despite the swapping option now being offered, Gamestop contends that there are still questions lingering around exactly how the process itself would play out. One problem they cite in particular is how long it would possibly take for the disc to arrive once a player has chosen to trade in the digital code. Any delays on that front would obviously be unwelcome for players. Complicating the matter even further is the fact that the "Halo 5" Collector's Edition package will be released just a week before the game is officially launched, leaving little time for players to trade in the codes and still get started along with everyone else.

Both Microsoft and 343 Industries have yet to say just how long the exchange process would take.

The "Halo 5" Collector's Edition package will be released on Oct. 20, while the game itself will not be officially ready to be played until Oct. 27.
