The cinematic opening of "Halo 5: Guardians" has been unveiled by 343 Studios and Microsoft one month prior to the release of the game in October. 

Series protagonist Master Chief is noticeably missing in the freshly released video. Instead, the game developer chose to feature Spartan Locke, the other main character in the upcoming game, as well as his trusted Fireteam Osiris squad. 

The cinematic trailer begins with Jameson Locke and his Fireteam Osiris squad — composed of Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck, Sergeant Holly Tanaka, and Spartan Olympia Vale — onboard a Pelican aircraft before they embark in a chaotic battle below. 

"In the cinematic, the group receives UNSC orders to recover a high value target and deploy to take on Covenant and Promethean forces in a fierce action sequence – the start to the most ambitious, robust and epic Halo campaign experience yet," the blurb of the video says.

The group seems to be very reassured about their ability to succeed in their mission of rescuing the captured Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, even before they jump from the aircraft to face the Promethean and the Covenant armies below. 

Each character showcases their own skills and capabilities to contribute to the success of their mission. 

"Halo 5: Guardians" is the sequel to the 2012-released "Halo 4." Players of the upcoming game can opt to take the role of either Spartan Locke or the Master Chief as they hunt each other across the game's three vast worlds. They can also choose their way to achieve objectives in a single-player game or in a four-player cooperative game. 

This game title, which will feature over 20 multiplayer maps at launch and an additional 15 other maps after it is released, is a part of the franchise's new Reclaimer Trilogy. 

"Halo 5: Guardians" is slated to come out exclusively for Xbox One on Oct. 27.
