'Halo 5: Guardians' news: 'Ghosts of Meridian' update details unveiled

The April update for "Halo 5: Guardians" will come out next week, 343 Industries has revealed.

GameSpot talked to the game's designers about the maps in the upcoming "Halo 5: Guardians" expansion, called the "Ghosts of Meridian." The maps include Skirmish at Darkstar and Tyrant.

According to the report, Tyrant is a small-scale symmetrical map that is set in space, and is intended for the Assault and Capture the Flag game types. In the previously released image of the map, a blazing star can be spotted overlooking the entire battlefield.

In this map, the highly skilled snipers could use the weapon pad as their best spot for shooting at the Blue and Red bases. Meanwhile, those who opt to engage in close-range combat could use the Scattershot.

Meanwhile, the new Skirmish at Darkstar is considered the smallest Warzone map. This map allows players to use different gates that they can open and close to their own advantage. The landscape of the map is basically barren, where plants and animals are barely seen.

343 Industries creative director Josh Holmes explained how the past Warzone maps from "Halo 5" served as an inspiration in designing this particular map.

"We try to facilitate many different types of play, allowing players to deploy a variety of Reqs according to team strategy and individual playstyle. We want to make sure that no matter which Req players bring in, they have an area on the map where it can be used effectively and to have fun," Holmes said. "For Skirmish at Darkstar we have a new intro experience where players are dropped into the middle of the action. Both teams have a clear objective that creates confrontation from the beginning."

Aside from the maps, the soon-to-be released "Ghosts of Meridian" expansion will include a lot of new cosmetic and useful items such as Reqs that contains two new unlocks, additional weapons, armors, as well as the latest Hannibal variants made for the Mantis and the Scorpion.

The past free updates from "Halo 5: Guardians" include November 2015's "The Battle of Shadow and Light," "Cartographer's Gift" in December, "Infinity's Armor" in January and the "Hammer Storm" in February. 343 Industries opted not to release a new update in March and decided to drop a new one sometime in April. However, the actual date of release next week is still unrevealed.
