'Halo 5' game plot rumors: Master Chief to become a key protagonist, but what will happen to Agent Locke?

It seems like the Master Chief is staying for a long time.

A representative from 343 Industries previously gave a brief statement about the Master Chief's status in the upcoming "Halo 5" game on NeoGAF, debunking rumors saying that the character will be out of the "Halo" universe soon.

According to a forum post by franchise development director Frank O'Connor from 343 Industries, "'A' primary character, Chief is the main character and hero."

He also added that they are not considering ending Master Chief's character in "Halo 5" after "Halo: The Master Chief Collection."

This is in contrast with actor Mike Coulter's statement during an interview with X-One magazine, saying that his character Agent Jameson Locke in the TV series "Halo: Nightfall" will be the main protagonist in the new game.

"I'm a playable character. Once Halo: The Master Chief Collection is released, and then Halo 5 comes out shortly thereafter, you're basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character," Coulter told X-One. "I'll have some cool weaponry, and some cool abilities, because by that time I'll be a Spartan IV."

However, the actor did not specify if he will be an ally or an enemy of the Master Chief, but they would have some very interesting interaction in Halo's fifth installment.

He said, "The relationship between Master Chief and Jameson Locke is going to be interesting. Because what's the outcome? Is he dead or alive? Because that's usually what a manhunt comes down to, dead or alive, but you won't know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is [right away]. Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he's at mentally. But I'm sure that'll be a plot twist in Halo 5."

Yet fans are still a bit skeptical about the new details emerging about "Halo 5: Guardians." Aside from O'Connor's recent revelation, nothing is known about the game as of the moment.

"Halo 5: Guardians" is expected to hit market shelves in 2015 exclusively for Xbox One.
