Gamers were treated to a surprise when developer 343 Industries revealed a multiplayer gameplay video was released at the ongoing Gamescom 2016 at Cologne, Germany. The company also announced that a second beta test will happen sometime in the early months of 2017, where new game mechanics will be implemented.

The game had its first multiplayer beta test back in June and the company has done several changes to the game based on the feedback it received. In a blog post on Xbox Wire, 343's studio head of strategy games, Dan Ayoub, said that the development team has considered much of the feedback they received and will be implement them during the beta test early in 2017.

Ayoub stated, "Probably the biggest criticism we heard about the beta was issues with connectivity, de-synchs, etc." He also added, "I'm happy to say that, thanks to you, we've already addressed these issues in the final game."

Changes will also be implemented on the following:

  • Controls – The layout was adjusted to make them more efficient to the players.
  • Bases - Players will now be able to see appropriate information on their structures, such as evolution, damage sustained and more.
  • Leader abilities - Adjustments were made in its evolution tree so players can upgrade to the skills they think they need.
  • Resources and power - Cost and space occupied by structures are the main concern of the players.
  • Population - This was increased since the previous number was too small to enjoy the game.

Co-developer Creative Assembly also announced in a separate blog post a new multiplayer map called Rift which will be available in the Strongholds mode. The new map is located in the Greater Ark and contains a Forerunner structure, which is connected to a large subterranean network where it can harness the power it needs. Half of the map has been ruined by the war, while the other half contains large breaches. The players' tactics and strategies will be put to the test.

Fans that were present at the event also witnessed a new multiplayer gameplay video that was shared by Gematsu.
