Danny (Scott Caan) protects a coma patient who was a key witness from a previous case on the upcoming episode of "Hawaii Five-0" season 7.

Titled "Wehe 'ana (Prelude)," the show's 23rd episode will give fans a glimpse of Danny's life before Five-0. According to the official synopsis, a coma patient, who also served as a key witness from Danny's previous case, begins to show signs of waking. While protecting the witness from any danger, Danny recalls his last HPD case before he crossed paths with Steve (Alex O'Loughlin) and became a member of Five-0.

Danny and Steve's close friendship is one of the highlights of the series, but fans still have not seen how the two characters met. In the upcoming episode, the CBS procedural will finally reveal how the legendary bromance between Danny and Steve started. It will also showcase how their connection with each other goes even deeper than fans initially thought. It turns out Danny was having a difficult time dealing with his new life in Hawaii in the weeks before he was introduced to Steve. Additionally, the installment will explore what could have happened if Danny had not joined Five-0.

Showrunner Peter Lenkov recently caught up with TV Guide and he shared a few insights about the said episode about Steve and Danny. "McGarrett coming into his life, despite what Danny will ever say, was the best thing that ever could have happened and came at the right moment," he said.

Lenkov further explained why the two officers need each other, especially back when they first met. "Danny was floundering a little bit as a cop. ... McGarrett was his lifeline. You realize how much they need each other and how important they are in each other's lives."

The seventh season of "Hawaii Five-0" airs every Friday night at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
