Here's the best way to show that you love God

Loving God is what we are supposed to do, doing it with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. While that may sound like a lot of things that need to be done to show we love Him, it's actually simpler than that. We only need to do one thing: We have to obey His Word.

Obedience spells L-O-V-E

The Lord Jesus briefly explained this in John 14:15: "If you love Me, keep My commandments."

He meant to tell us that if we want to show that we love Him, we will do well to simply do what He said. Because we love Him, we obey His Word.

A totally different way to love

The way to love God is totally different from the way we love people. First, it's because we are commanded to love Him with all that we are. At the same time we are also commanded to love our neighbours but only as we love ourselves (see Matthew 22:37-40).

Second, it's because He's so different from people. Consider how God is complete in Himself, and has no need for any material or earthly thing. Thus, giving Him gifts in an effort to win His favour is useless. And because God owns everything (see Psalm 50:10-12), we can't actually attempt to buy His pleasure.

Loving God is actually a very simple and beneficial thing, if we look at it. For one, consider how we don't need to work ourselves silly in order to buy Him a gift. On the other side, consider how our character is moulded as we obey His will for all of us.

Yes, loving Him actually gives benefits for ourselves.

Jesus explains this truth best. He said, "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it." (Matthew 10:37-39)

Love God

Friends, I encourage you, let us all learn to love God by obeying His Word more than our own desires. This means doing things that He wants even if we don't feel like it. If Christ did what God wanted Him to do because He loved Him, we should, too.

"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." (John 6:38)
