'High School Musical 4' release date, cast: Original cast reportedly not returning

High School Musical - Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay EvansDisney

"High School Musical 4" is on its way and none of the original cast is returning. According to a report from Ecumenical News, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens have been quiet about making an appearance in the film and Ashley Tisdale has reportedly stated she has no intention of making a comeback, even if just for a cameo.

Despite this, Tisdale's character Sharpay will be referenced in the film as her cousin, named Campbell, will be one of the new five characters that the film will focus on. While Campbell is related to Sharpay, the original announcement back in March points out he will be more of a jock and theater nerd akin to the original films' Troy (Efron).

However, fans still hope that the actors might come in for a cameo as several key cast members from the original films were seen together at a Selena Gomez concert. Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu were all present and posted images via their respective Instagram accounts.

Hudgens and Tisdale posted the same photo of them together, showing that despite being rivals in the films they have grown together as friends in real life. Efron posted a photo of the four stars together. Not one of the stars mentioned if they have been approached by the studios to appear in the film.

The original announcement in March confirmed that the fourth film will take place years after the third film ended and will star five new characters. The aforementioned Campbell will be one of them and the others are named Erin, who is billed as the main character, Derek, Nathalie and Tamara. No list of actors have yet been announced for the film.

"High School Musical 4" will tackle the battle between the East High Wildcats and the West High Knights and is scheduled to launch in 2017.
