Tech giant Microsoft has announced that the HoloLens will be making an appearance at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. According to its official website, the new headset will be making a debut appearance at the E3 event to make people aware of how augmented reality would be changing the landscape for gaming.

The E3 announcement said, "Holographic computing promises whole new ways for us to create, collaborate, work, and play. We look forward to showing and telling you more at E3, the world's premier trade show for computer and video games and related products."

There are no details yet on how Microsoft is planning to present its augmented reality headset. Most observers say that since the E3 event is a showcase of the best of the best in the gaming and electronics industry, and with other tech giants and big-name game publishers making their appearance, Microsoft's preview of the HoloLens would best be served by a hands-on demonstration for the event's participants.

The HoloLens is an augmented reality headset that would allow its wearer to see a holographic display. The technology seamlessly integrates what the wearer sees in the surroundings with holographic interface that can be used for work or play.

The new HoloLens was announced early this year. However, aside from a very short "Minecraft" demo on its unveiling event, no other game titles were associated with Microsoft's new product. It is reported that there are Xbox One and Windows PC games currently in development that would make use of the new headset.

Early this week, in its annual Build conference in San Francisco, Microsoft announced its partnership with game engine giant Unity. Unity is one of the names behind successful game titles like "Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft."

This year's Electronics Entertainment Expo will start on June 16 and will end on June 18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.
