Carrie Mathison's future will be seen in season 5 of Showtime's "Homeland." Series showrunner Alex Carey alluded to how the season will run once it returns in October this year.

In an interview with E! News, Carey mentioned that "Homeland" will feature a major time jump for Carrie (Claire Danes) of at least two years. 

"She's a mother, and most notably, she's not in the CIA anymore. She has a new purpose and passion and I can probably tease that that's not going to last long. She's going to have a relationship with German intelligence, and that's going to be one of the more interesting relationships this season because they are an ally, but it's a pretty rocky relationship regardless," the series showrunner said. 

TVLine's Ausiello also mentioned several details that would excite fans for the fifth run of the award-winning espionage series. According to the post, season 5 features Saul's (Mandy Pantinkin) return to the CIA, while Carrie quits her post. Because of that, the formerly close colleagues are going to have a certain distance between them. The tension between Carrie and her ex-mentor is aggravated after Saul decides to form a new alliance with black ops expert Dar Adal, which she sees as a clear betrayal. 

Carrie is also going to be separated from Quinn (Rupert Friend), who she shared a tender moment with during the end of season 4.

Danes talked about how her character will respond to the changes in season 5. In an interview, the critically acclaimed actress shared how Carrie will have an interesting life phase next season.

"That will be interesting, to see her in that context, to be in a relationship, to actually be committed to her child, to have friends. We really have never seen her be relatively normal and social. I mean, I'm sure that will be completely ruined two episodes in!" she said.
