Today's "Homeland" season 5 episode marks Carrie's indisposed return to a life of war and surveillance after enjoying and getting used to a balanced and quiet one for a couple years now in Berlin.

Showrunner Alex Gansa told Radio Times that the fact that Carrie now protects and works for someone who is all about human rights puts her "in direct opposition to an intelligence agency like the CIA." This makes her ties to the group not entirely severed as she hoped.

In today's "Homeland" season 5 episode titled "The Tradition of Hospitality," the former CIA agent and her boss, the German philanthropist Düring, visit a refugee camp. Even with the best of intentions, they won't be given a warm welcome and it is not like that they are expecting such.

Before heading to the Hezbollah-controlled refugee camp, Carrie reminds her humanitarian boss of the danger they will be in and the unpredictable nature of their visit in the location. She requests that they stay there for only an hour then leave promptly.

Sadly, the promo for the "Homeland" season 5 episode makes it seem that the enemies lurking in the shadows will only need less than 60 minutes to launch their attack. And so after Düring announces he is donating $10 million to keep the camp safe, an explosion stops him mid-sentence.

Meanwhile, the episode will also see Saul and Allison at loggerheads about Carrie's suspected involvement in the leaked documents showing the agreement between Germany and the United States about the latter spying and breaching the privacy of the people in the former.

The incriminating documents were obtained by hackers apparently working for Düring, a discovery that makes Saul think that Carrie is in cahoots with the hackers.

"Homeland" season 5 episode 2 "The Tradition of Hospitality" airs today on Showtime.
