Actor Rupert Friend recently did an interview with media outlet Deadline and revealed a few insights regarding his character Peter Quinn on the television series "Homeland." He also gave a few clues on what fans should expect on the upcoming fifth season of the show. 

Regarding Quinn's failed love relationship with main character Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), the actor stated, "I think it was very interesting to see this so-called tough guy – who we've seen be violent, and who has deep anger management issues and is very thick-skinned in many ways – open himself in any way to anybody, even the tiniest bit, and be even mildly rejected." 

He then explained that Quinn, a character who is not used to intimacy or to being vulnerable, reacts differently from other people who might just shrug such rejection off. In season 4, Quinn decided to go on a suicide mission that separated him and Carrie for good as the latter left Islamabad, quit the CIA, and is now on self-imposed exile in Germany. 

The character is still slated to come back for season 5 but Carrie is set to have a new love interest in the person of Jonas Happich, played by Alexander Fehling. Happich is not only dating Carrie but also works as a legal counsel for the During Foundation, Carrie's new employer and hinted to be the season's big antagonist. 

This dynamic set-up might make things even worse for the Quinn-Carrie relationship. When Friend was asked if he could reveal anything about the two characters' future as a couple, he simply stated, "We're not given a season outline or anything. It's done very much blow-by-blow."

The fifth season leaves the desert locale and takes place in Germany, a few years after the season 4 finale. Carrie now works for a private security firm and has been assigned under Otto During, a current person-of-interest for the CIA.

"Homeland" season 5 is scheduled to premiere this fall.
