'Homeland' season 4 spoilers: Trailer teased through mobile app

Showtime went all out to promote "Homeland" Season 4 by using a new strategy using a mobile app.

Don Buckley, Showtime Network's Executive Vice President for Program Marketing & Digital Services, released a press statement regarding the network's innovative marketing ploy for the award-winning show.

The statement reads:

We're always looking for innovative ways to create memorable fan experiences on mobile devices and it's exciting to partner with Immersion for our number one series, HOMELAND. The subtle, yet impactful placement of the haptic technology builds anticipation, giving the trailer an added element of suspense, achieved through a combined sensory experience."

Several Android users will be able to access the trailer for the upcoming season of "Homeland" via the Coming Soon section of the Showtime Anytime mobile app.

Once the users install the update, they will be able to experience this new marketing strategy, as "the video will offer a multi-layered sensory experience through the use of tactile feedback."

"Homeland" Season 4 will delve into the rocky relationship between Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin). After Saul announced in the season three finale that he will leave the CIA to work in the private sector, Carrie is contemplating whether she wants to accept his offer to help her.

Fans will get to see several appearances of Carrie's child with the late Sergeant Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis). Carrie's sister Maggie (Amy Hargreaves) blames her for accepting an overseas assignment so that she does not have to raise her own daughter.

For fans who are expecting to see Brody appear in the new season even after his death, TV Guide reported, "Although we expect the ghost of Brody to haunt the new season at some point, his name isn't even mentioned in the first episode. Instead, Carrie is thrust right back into the center of the action by overseeing a drone-strike program in Afghanistan."

Aside from Danes and Patinkin, the show also stars Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn, Tracey Letts as Andrew Lockhart, Nazanin Boniadi as Fara Sherazi, and Laila Robins as Martha Boyd. The fourth season of "Homeland" will premiere on Oct. 5.
