Peter Quinn's (Rupert Friend) life-and-death situation seems to have made him a changed man when "Homeland" returns to Showtime for season 6.

In set photos released by Hollywood Life, Friend's character appears to have a dirtier, more unpolished look which fans of the series have never seen before. This proves that Quinn survived the major health scare that he suffered in the previous season.

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, showrunner Alex Gansa confirmed that the character is alive. However, he did not mention the character's current state after he almost died in season 5 finale.

"He suffered a major stroke last season... so he is a very changed and altered Quinn this year... He had a fairly rough ride last season, no doubt about it," Ganza said. "Quinn this coming season will really represent a very profound and familiar casualty of the war on terror for our audience. What he endured last year is different from what he's going through this year [when it comes to Carrie]."

Aside from Friend's confirmed return, the sixth season of "Homeland" will also introduce new characters such as the newly elected US President named Elizabeth Keane, portrayed by actress Elizabeth Marvel, as well as General Jamie McClendon, portrayed by "Prison Break" star Robert Knepper.

Deadline revealed that Keane was a former junior senator from New York who is described as "a little Hillary, a little Donald and a little Bernie Sanders." On the other hand, General McClendon will be known as the representative from the Department of Defense who will brief the newly elected president and her transition team.

Meanwhile, Mirando Otto confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that her character Alison has been dead since the end of season 5.

"Homeland" season 6 is slated to begin on Jan. 15, 2016.
