After her heroic feat in saving hundreds of life in Berlin, fans of the hit Showtime series "Homeland" are wondering what is in store for Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) in season 6.

During the last installment's finale, Carrie was instrumental in stopping the jihadists from releasing sarin gas in a train station. Had she not been able to identify the place where the extremists planned to cause unrest, the CIA would have a tough time explaining to the world why it botched such as crucial case. Although Carrie has long been relieved of her duty as an agent, she chose to go back so that they could save Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) and prevent the tragedy.

Now that the agency has proven that her skills are still as sharp as ever, Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) is bound to ask Carrie to return to the fold. Carrie has been serving with a private security firm owned by Otto Düring (Sebastian Koch), the well-known German philanthropist. She was also considered an enemy of the United States when Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) learned that she has turned into a German spy.

With all those behind her, Carrie can start fresh or choose to go back to Langley and become a CIA once more. It will be a little difficult for her, though, as she is bound to remember Quinn. The season 5 finale suggests that he died due to massive brain hemorrhage. Fans are still hoping, though, that there is still hope for the agent and that he and Carrie will be reunited in the upcoming season.

In an interview with Variety, executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter addressed rumors about Carrie's return to the CIA.

"It'll be interesting to see where the next season goes as far as that goes. Until we have that series of meetings, I don't know yet if Alex [Gansa] has any idea. But those meetings in Washington have such a big impact."

"Homeland" season 6 is expected to premiere in 2016.
