Season 6 of "Homeland" recently ended. With a new season coming up, it is possible that Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) will be brought back by the showrunners. Meanwhile, viewers might witness Claire Danes' Carrie turn into a sociopath in the next season of "Homeland."

In the finale of "Homeland" season 6, titled "America First," Rupert Friend's Peter Quinn sacrificed himself to pave way for President-elect Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) to get to the White House. Unfortunately, new president Keane took revenge on the people who wronged her and had them arrested, including Saul (Many Patinkin).

Although season 6 ended with a shocking and devastating surprise, executive producer Alex Gansa is not yet sure where season 7 will take the story.

In an interview with Deadline, Gansa reveals that she and her team are still developing ideas for seasons 7 and 8.

"We don't really even know where we're going to be shooting the last two seasons. We don't know what story we're going to be telling, whether we're going to be telling a Russian story or an Israeli story or an American story," said Gansa.

Gansa does note that they will be looking at real events happening in the world, but they have yet to decide how much of these real-life events will influence their story for the future seasons.

However, Gansa confirms the possibility of Brody returning through some sort of a flashback.

"I think Brody was such an important part of Carrie's past that it might be worth exploring in some way, shape or form," Gansa revealed.

Bringing back Brody would help develop Carrie's character, especially now that she seems trapped and has started showing sociopathic behavior.

In an interview with Variety, Friend pointed out that Carrie was "unable to process" the selfishness of waking up a man from a coma for answers that he may not have.

According to Friend, Carrie endangered this man's life, and "That strikes me bordering on sociopathic, if not psychopathic."

"Homeland" season 7 is expected to premiere in 2018.
