Hoping for victory? Here are 6 Bible verses to guide you to victory with God
Whether you've been watching the coverage of this year's Olympics in Rio or not, it's very likely that the topic of winning (and losing) will have crossed your mind more than once over the past week or so.
The Olympics don't just put these concepts on the world stage, they also get us thinking about how we define success, the routes we take to achieve our goals and what sacrifices we're prepared to make in order to do so, how we cope with failure and who we attribute our victories to.
You'll have heard many Olympians speak about how important their coaching staff, their families and their fans have been throughout their journey to compete in the greatest sporting event in the world and to take their place on the podium.
But, you'll also have heard many Christian athletes talk about how instrumental God and their faith has been in their pursuit and realisation of victory.
After winning gold in the women's 400m by an astonishing 0.07 seconds, Bahamian track runner Shaunae Miller told the BBC: "I just give God the thanks and praise. He has bought me so far.
"It is such an emotional moment for me but I just give God the thanks and praise."
And after his world record breaking performance in the men's 400m, South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk said: "The only thing I can do now is to give God praise. I went on my knees each and every day and I told the Lord to take care of me and look after me every step."
Miller and Van Niekerk are just two of the many Christian athletes who have used their Olympic platforms to give glory to God and acknowledge that their achievements are made possible through Him.
Whether you're going for a big win as an Olympic gold medallist or an amateur athlete or hoping for a small victory in any area of your life, God can help you.
