Netflix original series "House of Cards" will be joined by Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott in major roles when it returns for its fifth season. The political drama cut-throat show is expected to arrive in either February or March next year.

Clarkson, an Oscar nominee, is known for projects like "Pieces of April," "Six Feet Under," and "The Scorch Trials," while Scott is known for "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll," "Royal Pans," and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." However, no details for the new additions' roles are available, and the show is known to keep things heavily under wraps, The Playlist reported.

The fifth season of the show will also mark the first time under a new set of showrunners. This time, it will be under Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson after Beaue Willimon, who acted as the showrunner and creator, bailed out because of some misunderstanding with unknown executives. Pugliese and Gibson were the previous senior writers.

Fans are speculating that the role of Clarkson and Campbell remains unknown, and the duo is waiting for the result of the presidential election that will happen by Nov. 8. There are also rumors that the new characters will be clashing with Claire (Robin Wright) and Frank (Kevin Spacey).

From the things going on behind the scenes, the show is shaking things up. Both actors are highly capable of providing powerful dramatic performances. This is also the first time that new blood was injected into the show, and it could possibly make the show stand out to a new set of viewers. Fans are also hoping that the new characters will not just be another casualty for the Underwood.

"House of Cards" first aired back in February 2013. Frank was just a congressman, but he is full of the ambition of achieving the highest post in the country, gradually. He was then aiming to secure an appointment as secretary of State, but he bypassed protocol, which made him stage an elaborate plan and went straight up for the presidency.

"House of Cards" season 5 is expected to premiere sometime in 2017.
