Fans who are eagerly waiting for the sixth and final season of the popular Netflix political drama series "House of Cards" may have to wait a little bit longer. The series has extended its production's hiatus for another two weeks, with the show expected to return to production on Dec. 8.

The extension of the production's hold was announced by the show's producers, Media Rights Capital, in a letter sent to the series' cast and crew. The letter was signed by Pauline Micelli, the senior vice president of TV Business and Legal Affairs for Media Rights Capital.

According to the letter, the producers are still working with Netflix about resuming the production of the show. While the production is on hold, the writing staff, a small contingency of office as well as its accounting staff will continue to work in the production office.

The letter also assured that the cast and other union members working for the series will be paid in accordance with existing union guidelines.

The letter ended with a word of encouragement for those who are part of the suspended production. "These last two months have tested and tried all of us in ways none of us could have foreseen," said Micelli. "The one thing we have learned throughout this process is that this production is bigger than just one person and we could not be more proud to be associated with one of the most loyal and talented production cast and crew in this business."

The production of "House of Cards" was first suspended indefinitely on Halloween following reports of alleged sexual misconduct by Kevin Spacey, one of the central characters of the show. The producers said they would need some time to review the current situation and address concerns that the show's cast and crew may have.

Spacey was subsequently fired from the show, and the producers of the series also announced that the upcoming season will be its last.
