A new character is joining "House of Cards" when the fourth season gets underway in 2016, and that role will be played by actress Neve Campbell.

The former "Party of Five" star has apparently signed on with the Netflix series as a regular character, though there is no word yet on what the character  will be.

It is widely believed, however, that Campbell will be part of a rumored new power set that will give Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) some problems.

The Season 4 finale of "House of Cards" saw the split of the couple, and it is practically inevitable for both to go up against each other. Unforeseen, however, is the entry of a new player, apparently a new couple, one of whom will apparently be played by Campbell.

With Frank and Claire at odds, the Underwoods may reach a point where both will eventually lose as well. Remember that as a couple, they were simply fantastic but individually, their charm may not be as powerful

And this could be the opportunity that the alleged new power set is looking for, and will possibly pull the rug from under the couple. It seems that Frank's winning the highest position there is has resulted in conflict between him and Claire.

As a couple, they were pretty tough to beat but individually, both Frank and Claire seem like sitting ducks, especially if Campbell and company get into the nitty-gritty and dirty tactics that the game of politics has been known to carry.

Whatever the plans are, much of it may be known by 2016. Filming for Season 4 will reportedly commence in Baltimore in summer. This also marks Campbell's first major commitment to a TV role since "Party of Five."

"House of Cards," an American political drama series, is an adaptation of the BBC's mini-series of the same title and is based on the novel by Michael Dobbs.

In the series, set in Washington, D.C., Underwood, a Democrat from South Carolina's fifth congressional district and House Majority Whip, got bypassed for appointment as Secretary of State. He then initiated an elaborate plan to get himself into a position of greater power, aided by his wife, Claire. The series deals primarily with ruthless pragmatism, manipulation and power.
