It has been reported that Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) is more than likely going to betray her husband Frank (Kevin Spacey) in "House of Cards" season 5 as she aims to take his position as president of the United States. According to Vine Report, she may not be entirely alone in this plan.

According to the report, Doug may switch sides to help Claire secure the position against Frank and the other competitors vying for the position of U.S. president. In order to do so, he may be required to kill Frank Underwood. This would be a big twist on the show given how Doug and Frank have been constant allies since season 1.

While Doug will be the one to commit the deed, it will be Claire orchestrating the events. It is undetermined at this point if they will get other allies, such as Neve Campbell's Leann Harvey, who is speculated by many to be Doug's new love interest.

It was previously reported that the UK original "House of Cards" ended with the main character being killed by his love interest. This may be what happens in the US version but it will play out differently also due to the differences between the two shows. 

Season 5 is rumored to be the final season of the show given how there has been a change in show runners and because the series is still following the basic blue print of the UK original. Robin Wright is also playing a role in the upcoming "Wonder Woman" movie and this may be a sign that the actors are looking for their next venture once "House of Cards" is complete.

"House of Cards" season 5 has no official release date for the time being but it is speculated to premiere by early 2017, presumably by late March or early April.
