Mahershala Ali will no longer reprise his role as Remy Danton in "House of Cards" season 5. The actor himself, who now stars in another one of Netflix's shows, "Luke Cage," broke the news.

During an interview with The Independent, the actor reflected on how "House of Cards" became a stepping stone in his career. As he talked about this, he casually revealed that he is not part of "House of Cards" season 5, which freed him up to star in other projects.

"I'm no longer on the show, and because of our conversations and being able to contractually move out of that series, I've been able to take advantage of other opportunities and get a sense of what was available for me out there," the actor said.

It makes sense for Remy not to be part of "House of Cards" season 5 since he has let go of politics altogether by the end of the fourth season.

Leaving the award-winning series, however, did not stop Ali from sharing his two cents on what to expect on "House of Cards" season 5.

The actor said to The Wrap that Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) could meet his downfall, not at the hands of a foe, but at the hands of a friend.

"Like maybe at some point because he's the one closest to him, my guess would be [Doug] Stamper (Michael Kelly)," Ali said.

It has been rumored for a while now that Doug, who is considered the most loyal and greatest ally of Underwood, will turn against the president of the United States in "House of Cards" season 5.

Kelly has already said that he is "obsessed" with Underwood and their alliance. Whether this will make or break things between them or not, fans will have to wait for "House of Cards" season 5 to know.

The new season of the series is expected to drop early next year on Netflix.
