'House of Cards' season 5 spoilers: is Claire prepared to kill Frank to be the next President?

House of Cards Season 4Netflix

Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) managed to make peace with her husband Frank (Kevin Spacey) in "House of Cards" season 4 and she ascended up the ladder to become the vice president of the country. According to a report from MNR Daily, it is possible that in season 5 she will do whatever it takes to go one step higher.

The original series that aired in the U.K. did see Francis killed off and it was revealed that his wife was responsible for hiring the assassin. This was done due to Francis (prime minister in the U.K. version) making poor political decisions. This was mirrored in the Netflix adaptation when Francis Underwood ended season 4 with a declaration of war.

Although the U.K. series and the U.S. adaptation on Netflix are significantly different, it is possible that season 5 will end the series in a very similar fashion, with Claire assassinating her husband and take his place as President of the United States.

Another hint of this taking place is the fact that Claire broke the fourth wall and addressed the audience in the season 4 finale, indicating that in time she would become the main character, eliminating Frank's role in the series. Given that Claire knows all of Frank's secrets she could easily manipulate him and the circumstances to have him killed.

The show is also losing Beau Willimon as the show runner and many fans suggest this means season 5 will be the show's last. While it is possible for the series to continue without Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, it is more possible that the show would officially end with his character's death, giving the show a proper beginning, middle and end.

No specific release has yet been announced for "House of Cards" season 5 but if the series follows the same release pattern of previous seasons it is likely going to premiere by early 2017.
