Houston Rockets point guard Ty Lawson apologized after being handed a two-game suspension by the National Basketball Association (NBA) for his driving under the influence (DUI) arrest during the offseason. 

According to the Houston Chronicle, Lawson stated Saturday following the team's shoot around, "I want to apologize to my teammates for doing what I did over the summer. Now I am paying the consequences so I just want to apologize to everybody. Two games off and I will be ready when I get back."

Lawson already served the first game of the suspension last Saturday, when the Rockets hosted the Los Angeles Clippers and won, 107–97. 

The second game of the suspension will be a showdown with the Charlotte Hornets, which will still be held at the Toyota Center today, Monday.

Lawson's DUI arrest came before the Denver Nuggets, his former team, and the Rockets decided to push through with the trade deal that sent him to his present team. 

Last season, the Rockets reached the Western Conference Finals but played with only one true point guard in veteran Jason Terry, as Patrick Beverley had a season-ending injury late in the regular season. 

That is why Houston traded for Lawson, believing that he will be the answer to their woes at the position. 

But in 26 games (11 starts) played this season, Lawson is averaging a career-low 5.9 points, together with 1.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and one steal in 25.2 minutes per contest. 

In a report by ESPN, the Rockets are "committed" to Lawson but his representatives are assessing his trade value, according to league sources. 

Lawson may currently not have a very impressive trade value because of his performance with Houston this season. 

The 28-year-old point guard is struggling to fit into the Rockets system, which led to him losing the starting job after just 11 games, now seeing a new role as a reserve.
