How can you be sure that you're saved?

You've accepted God as your savior. You're faithful and you trust Him with all your heart. And yet, somewhere inside you, you doubt if you're truly saved. This may be because you still commit sin or perhaps, you do not always please the Lord. This thinking is only natural; it's because we cannot believe that by simply accepting Christ as our savior, that we are already saved and forgiven. In times when you doubt yourself, lean on these verses.

Jesus Died for Us

For God so loved the world, that He gave up His only son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life. – 1 John 3:16

Probably one of the most famous Bible verses of all time, John 3:16 clarifies self-doubt instantly. This verse explains that as long as you believe in the Lord, you will have eternal life. And that's because Jesus has already died for our sins, even the ones we are about to commit. It's not just about believing that God exists too, it's believing everything about Him, what He said, and what He wants us to do. So if you 100 percent believe in the Lord, that He is your lord and savior, then your salvation is secure.

Confess and You are Saved

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. – Romans 10:9

Another important verse that solidifies your salvation is Romans 10:9. It says here that as long as you confess that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. Every Christian believes in the crucifixion and resurrection. Both are monumental events in Christian history. The crucifixion was when Jesus died for our sins and the resurrection was when He rose from the dead. The importance of the latter shows how Jesus defeated sin and death. If you believe in this wholeheartedly, you are saved.

Nothing Separates You from God

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As we've talked about earlier, one possible reason for self-doubt is because you still continue to commit son, which doesn't please God at all. Bear in mind that the devil will do whatever it takes to instill doubt in your heart. Doubt is a seed, and when it grows, this can lead you to question every single thing about your faith. Thus, the enemy will be successful in breaking your relationship with the Lord. However, as long as you remember that nothing will ever separate you from the love of God, you are saved.

To be honest, I believe this is a stage that every Christian goes through. Back then, I remember asking myself "How can God forgive me for doing something like this? Or "How can God keep forgiving me if I keep committing the same sin over and over again?" My grandmother simply told me that as long as you ask for forgiveness and truly mean it, God will forgive me. If you believe this too, in time, you will build that confidence to say that you are truly saved because God is merciful and nothing can separate you from His Love. It's all about fully trusting the Lord and having confidence in yourself to believe that you are indeed worth God's love and mercy.
