'How to Get Away with Murder' season 3 spoilers: Everyone's a suspect in the show's biggest murder thus far

Just before "How to Get Away with Murder" went on a mandatory midseason hiatus, the series finally revealed the season-long question of who was under the sheet. For some time now, fans have been trying to piece things together to come up with a theory. Nevertheless, the ABC show threw everyone for a loop when the person in question was actually Wes (Alfred Enoch).

The multiple time jumps made the much guarded secret work. Audiences thought that the Keating 5 member was safe with him being the star witness of the Defense Attorney against Annalise (Viola Davis); however, as it turns out, the testimonial happened earlier than the fateful night of the fire where he actually died.

Linking back to other previous claims with Frank (Charlie Weber) being the favorite in terms of this season's big death, Wes' death is arguably a more impactful plot twist that will propel Annalise's story. That in itself was actually enough reason for executive producer Pete Nowalk to push through with the shocking twist.

"I think that's one of the reasons why I made the decision is I was fascinated to see how she would react," he admitted in a midseason postmortem session with Entertainment Weekly. "She's worked really hard to try to keep Wes safe. I think she's projected a lot of her healing onto him. What we've watched is that the two of them really helped heal each other."

Surely, the defense lawyer's reaction when she found out who was found dead in the burning house was an indication that the person was someone very close to her. And Annalise and Wes' relationship was nothing short of being family-like making it very interesting how the former will move on with this recent development.

This death also once again adds another crack to Annalise's group as the guessing game starts as to who might have killed one of their own, especially since Wes was already dead even before the house was lit on fire. Nowalk shared that at this point everyone is a suspect but things are worse for Annalise with how their relationship spiraled out of control this season.

"In the immediate aftermath, when everyone finds out it's Wes, they're going to instantly wonder if it's her. Obviously we'll answer that question for our characters really early after the fact," the TV executive added.

More information as to how, when and why Wes' demise came to be should be revealed when "How to Get Away with Murder" comes back after its winter break. Enoch has teased that there are more surprises in the remaining half of season 3, including what his character was up to just before he was killed and other possible twists in the narrative.

"How to Get Away with Murder" season 3 comes back on Jan. 19, 2017, on ABC.
