The filming for the final series of "How I Met Your Mother" will start today.

Co-creator and executive producer Craig Thomas tweeted that the filming will start July 10.

The first episode will be an hour-long episode, which will premiere Sept. 23 and is rumored to be titled "The Locket."

The final season of the popular sitcom is rumored to just have half as many episodes as previous seasons.

A new female character will be revealed in the first episode, according to TVLine. However, the character, named Camille, will not be the mother. She is described as an African-American or Latina woman who sites next to Marshall on a flight to New York. Camille, who is in her 30's or 40's, reportedly becomes "so annoyed with Marshall's erratic behavior that a confrontation ensues and they are both escorted off the plane prior to take-off."

Season 9 is set to take place on the weekend of Barney and Robin's wedding. Barney's half-brother James, played by Wayne Brady, is set to return to the show for the final season.

Brady confirmed via Twitter: "Just got back from my 1st HIMYM fitting of the season! Can't wait to shoot on Wed! You may be seeing a little more "James" this season! Yes!"

Craig Thomas promised that the last season will tell the story in a new way. "It's going to be a new way to tell the story. You're never going to mistake a Season 9 episode from one of the previous eight. This is the final lap, so there's no more withholding of fun ideas. There's something very carpe diem about it. We're going for it and looking to not leave anything on the field. I hope that means these remaining episodes will be great."
