"How to Get Away With Murder" season 2 will dwell on the backstory of Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) and her disturbing relationship with Bonnie Winterbottom (Liza Weil) when it returns this September.

Entertainment Weekly reveals that the upcoming installment will be featuring one of the "dysfunctional relationships" in the ABC series. Sharp-eyed viewers have noticed that Annalise's associate attorney has been exhibiting uncanny loyalty to her. They could not help but think that perhaps, she has a previous hold on Bonnie that kept the latter that submissive to her will.

Series creator Peter Nowalk revealed that season 2 will be answering all the questions regarding the Annalise-Bonnie connection.

"Get ready for the origin story of one of the most dysfunctional relationships in Shondaland! We're going to find out more about how Bonnie and Annalise know each other."

Meanwhile, Davis revealed that while a lot of mysteries will be solved in the upcoming installment, new ones will also be presented. In an interview with Deadline, she said that the show will be starting with a bang.

"It's just so complicated and fascinating, and that happens in the first episode. You can understand why these people have been put together in some kind of weird cosmic way," says Davis.

The actress also shared that aside from the criminal defense attorney's backstory, the new season will also focus on other characters' past. Viewers will reportedly get a lot more insight on every character, more specifically Rebecca (Katie Findlay). The series has previously hinted that season 2 will expose who her killer is.

During the season finale, Rebecca sent out a mysterious message to an unknown number, which read, "Eggs 911 Lawyer's House." This led to many speculations that she was in fact communicating with her twin sister. Nowalk has earlier revealed that Findlay would still comeback for the next installment.

"How to Get Away With Murder" season 2 will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
