Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) spent lesser time dealing with new cases in her criminal law class in the second season of "How To Get Away with Murder." But this could change when the criminally acclaimed series returns for season 3.

In the previous season, the fierce criminal lawyer focused on the complicated Hasptall trial. But according to showrunner Pete Nowalk, things could go back to its roots in the third season.

"I like switching it up, honestly," Nowalk explained in an interview with TVLine. "I don't want the show to become stale. In the back half of Season 2, we had so much emphasis on Rose's case that there wasn't room for cases of the week. We'll probably try to do a balance."

The showrunner also said that Annalise will return to what she was originally known for in season 3. "I love watching Annalise do her job in any way. She loves her job, and I don't think she's the same person if she's not doing it. So, whether that's case of the week or case of the season, seeing her at work is what I care about," Nowalk said.

Also, the showrunner revealed that mystery about the identity of the person responsible for killing Wallace Mahoney (Adam Arkin) will be unveiled in season 3. Yet the writers are still undecided if the revelation will be made at the beginning of the season or if its complicated plot will unveil slowly.

Yet actor Charlie Weber teased that his character Frank Delfino could possibly turn out to be Mahoney's killer.

"It would certainly fit the story, but again I have no idea who pulled that trigger — or why," the actor told TVLine. "Wallace was a powerful man with a lot of enemies, and Frank is certainly one of them."

ABC has yet to announce the official release date of "How To Get Away with Murder" season 3, but the show is expected to premiere this fall.
