After the release of HTC One M9 and the company's larger screen variant, One M9 Plus, the Taiwanese smartphone maker took the best features from both handsets and fused them into another newly announced device known as Butterfly J. Unfortunately, the smartphone is only going to be available in Japan, and will be sold through selected carrier networks.

There are several differences separating Butterfly J and One M9, with the most notable feature being the resolution difference. One M9 renders the 1080p resolution, while Butterfly J's display will be far more vibrant thanks to its 1440p resolution. Both smartphones are incorporated with 3 GB of RAM, which should be sufficient for fulfilling multitasking requirements. Both Butterfly J and One M9 also feature a Snapdragon 810 SoC.

However, knowing full well the overheating and rapid battery depleting issues that accompany with Snapdragon 810, HTC still decided to incorporate small 2,840 and 2,700 mAh batteries in its One M9 and Butterfly J respectively. In short, smartphone users who intend on purchasing either one of the handsets should not expect to get impressive battery life results out of them. Where the newly announced handset excels One M9 is the image snapping and video recording departments. This is because while both smartphones are equipped with a 20 MP front camera sensor, Butterfly J features a 13 MP front camera, which will come in handy for the 'selfie enthusiast'.

HTC Desire Eye also features the same 13 MP front camera sensor as Butterfly J. Both mobile devices are also armed to the teeth with an LTE Cat 6 modem and 802.11 ac wireless adapter, but actual speeds will depend on the carrier network and router capabilities, respectively. Pricing details of Butterfly J have not stated as yet, but if the handset is able to sell more units than the company expects it too, then HTC might be compelled to branch out the distribution regions of Butterfly J.
