It has been rumored that HTC will unveil another smartphone from the Desire series in the coming months. The last handset to come from the lineup, the Desire 10 Pro, was launched more than a year ago, which means that the timing is rife for HTC to release a brand new Desire phone, which could end up being the HTC Desire 12. Further supporting the rumors is the leaked retail box of the said smartphone, which includes the features and specs details of the Desire 12.

With the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 just around the corner, the public is anticipating that HTC will launch a new flagship handset at the tech expo. Unfortunately, it appears that the company's next premium smartphone, specifically the HTC U12, will be showcased at a later date instead, and the worse rumor so far is that the U11 successor may not even make it for a 2018 launch. Nevertheless, the company is still expected to introduce new hardware in the near future, with one being the HTC Desire 12.

While the Desire series is not as powerful as the HTC's U lineup due to its budget-friendly design and entry-level specs, the latest leak for the HTC Desire 12 suggests that users will get to enjoy a sophisticated handset for a cheaper price. The leaked retail box lists the HTC Desire 12 to have a 64-bit, quad-core MediaTek processor with 3 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and 32 GB internal storage. The smartphone is expected to sport a 5.5-inch tall display with 18:9 aspect ratio, which resembles the appearance of recent flagship devices. The Desire 12 screen will feature HD+ or 720  x1,440 resolution.

As for the camera department, the HTC Desire 12 leaked retail box shows a 12 MP rear camera that is capable of shooting 1,080p videos, plus a 5 MP front-facing shooter. The handset is packed with a 2,730 mAh battery, as well as G LTE support and microSD card with up to 2TB storage. There are also two slots available for nano SIM Cards.

While the leaked retail box does not confirm this, there are speculations that the HTC Desire 12 will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Following this huge leak, it is likely that more information will be revealed in the coming days or weeks about the price and date of release. Perhaps, HTC will make the official announcement at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona on Feb. 25.
