HTC One A9 release date, specs news: Will it make up for the HTC One M9 flop?

HTC may have its work cut out for itself after a dismal showing of the HTC One M9.

The M9 was unable to make a lasting impression, somehow, not far behind from the fate of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Could its fortune be somehow covered up by a reportedly better A9?

The new device will rely on its better design and powerful specs to do just that. It will have some high-end features that include a 5.5-inch quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixel) display as well as a new and powerful rear camera that carries RAW photography support. It is expected to come out with Android Marshmallow for its operating system (OS) out of the box.

All this will be powered by a powerful 10-core MediaTek Helio X20 chip backed by 4 GB RAM. Aside from that, all other features will be unveiled at a scheduled event set for the first week of September. Although there is no official word on it yet, it remains to be seen if HTC was able to address one of the key features the HTC One M9 got on its camera.

With the main camera hardly making any impression, there could be a dramatic change for it in the HTC One A9. Could these be enough to entice and make up for a lackluster HTC One M9? Well, HTC is certainly banking on it.

HTC CEO Cher Wang is pinning its hopes on the HTC One A9, calling it a "hero" device which apparently refers to the failure of the HTC One M9. The features seem something to look forward to and hopefully the unconfirmed additional specs can pick up the slack as well.

With a high-end device tasked to redeem the HTC brand, here is hoping that the upcoming handset will truly live up to its billing and offer something better not only on the outside but internally as well.
