Android M release: HTC One M8 to receive Sense 7 UI when it gets Android M

The HTC One M8 is not going to get Sense 7, the Taiwan manufacturer's Android-based user interface, until Android M comes out. The UI was previously seen running on the HTC flagship One M9 and the tech firm already promised that its predecessor is getting it this month.

Unfortunately, there is a change of plans, which HTC Product Manager Mo Versi revealed via Twitter when asked by a user when Sense 7 will make its way to the HTC One M8. This means that the UI will likely be available to the year-old handset later this year.

Android M is expected to replace Android Lollipop in October at the earliest. This means that those who rock the HTC One M8 will have to wait a few more months than what they previously estimated for the rollout of the Sense 7 UI on their smartphones.

However, even after the latest Android operating system has rolled out, users will also have to wait for Google to actually ship it to the HTC One M8, which should take up more time. That aspect is difficult to predict as tech firms have varying OS release windows.

This doesn't make a 2016 rollout of the Sense 7 for the HTC's 2014 flagship impossible. When the One M8 came out last year, it had the Sense 6 UI juxtaposed on Android KitKat. The device was already updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. HTC One M9, on the other hand, debuted with the Sense 7 UI.

This news also makes it unclear whether or not the HTC One M8 will get Android 5.1 Lollipop at all. Just recently, the M9 received the latest iteration of the operating system but there hasn't been any indication if the former's next update will be Android M with Sense 7 UI or if it will get 5.1 Lollipop first.
