HTC One M9: New leaked images said to be prototypes

HTC One M8

In the past weeks, a number of HTC One M9 leaks emerged online. The leaks allegedly hint on the possible specs and features of the upcoming HTC flagship smartphone. However, website HTC Source, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, claimed that the leaks are not the final design of the handset and that those are merely prototypes.

The source said that the images and specs sheets that were shared by tech websites are decoy test units. Prototypes are units used for different kinds of testing and still undergo changes based on the results of the tests. Consumers may see the final design of the handset at its formal announcement on March 1.

The source also revealed that the HTC One M9 will feature an edge-to-edge glass panel, which hints that the smartphone will have a larger screen display. It will also include BoomSound speakers on the top and bottom of the device. The front-facing camera will be similar to the shooter packed in the HTC Desire 826, with a large lens placed front and center above the screen display. The source, however, did not reveal what is under the hood.

According to rumors, the One M9 will be released in two variants that will either have different screen resolutions (full HD and quad HD screens) or with different processors, with one model to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 810 SoC from Qualcomm and the other to be equipped with a MediaTek MT6795 octa-core CPU with 64-bit architecture.

Other rumored features of the forthcoming smartphone are 5- to 5.5-inch screen display, Adreno 420 graphic chipset, 3 GB of RAM, 20.7-megapixel camera and 13-megapixel front-facing camera or an Ultrapixel shooter. The smartphone will run with Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OS with HTC Sense 7 UI.

HTC sent out the invitations to the press for the launching event scheduled on March 1.
