Before the announcement of HTC One M9+, there were a flurry of leaks concerning the hardware specifications that the handset would be housing. Now, HTC's next high-end smartphone One M9+ has finally been announced and features a 5.2 inch screen size and a quad HD display (1440p). Starting off with the components of both smartphones, One M9+ is actually the very first handset to sport MediaTek's Helio lineup of chipsets, and carries the model name MT6795T.

The chipset features an octa-core processor running at a clock speed of 2.2 GHz, and while details have not stated which processor is running at the aforementioned speed, it can be assumed that it is ARM's Cortex-A53. In comparison, One M9 is running a Snapdragon 810, which is also running an octa-core CPU comprised of the following processors:

  • Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53
  • Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57

One half of the octa-core running inside One M9 is ARM's powerful Cortex-A57. While the CPU is able to deliver 56 percent more performance than Cortex-A53, it also consumes 256 percent more power compared to the lower performing processor. It will be difficult to tell which smartphone is able to provide better battery performance since One M9+ renders the 1440p resolution compared to One M9's 1080p while at the same time, is powered by ARM's battery hungry CPU.

In terms of RAM, both smartphone possess the same amount, along with the same rear camera sensor (20.7 megapixels). However, with One M9+, users will be able to snap better quality images thanks to the Duo Camera feature, which allow 3D effects to be rendered and edited via the photo editing tool. The larger screen smartphone also possesses a fingerprint reader present below the screen, which allows users to not only unlock the device, but to execute online transactions too.

Even now, it is difficult to state which smartphone will be crowned the winner of HTC's flagship smartphone due to identical specifications. However, since One M9+ delivers additional features compared to its smaller screen model, users might be inclined to purchase this one. Unfortunately, HTC has yet to decide whether or not the smartphone will be available to purchase in western markets.
