The upcoming HTC device codenamed "Ocean" has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now. The good news is, fans will just have to wait for less than a month to find out about the new device, as HTC has already confirmed its announcement date.

In the official Twitter account of HTC, the company announced that its newest smartphone is going to be announced on May 16. It teases, "Squeeze for the brilliant U," along with a short clip that shows someone squeezing the device on its sides.

Even though the preview does not specify the actual name of the smartphone, many believe that this was the rumored HTC U "Ocean," which will simply be called HTC U ongoing.

One of the most distinct technology coming to HTC U is the Edge Sense, which features frame-embedded sensors that will enable the user to do several customizable actions such as swiping left and right or changing the volume while watching a video by squeezing the device.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, there were leaks that the upcoming device will not have the 3.5mm headphone jack, similar to HTC U Ultra. The rumors seem correct, based on the responses by HTC in the same social media page.

In the same Twitter post, some fans expressed disappointment and asked the company why the HTC U will not have the 3.5mm audio jack. In a reply, HTC said that "HTC U has no audio jack in the interest of a more superior audio quality." They did not elaborate further, but there were rumors that the upcoming device may incorporate HTC BoomSound audio to compensate on the sound department of the smartphone.

As for other specifications, popular leakster Evan Blass shared on Venture Beat last month that HTC U may come in a 5.5-inch wide-quad high definition (WQHD) display screen at 2560x1440 pixel resolution. It may come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, along with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage that can be expanded through a microSD card.

Fans will just have to wait for a few weeks to find out about HTC U. The device will be unveiled on May 16 at 2 p.m. Taipei time or 2 a.m. EDT.
