The HTC Vive has just cleared a major hurdle after it was confirmed that the virtual reality (VR) headset has now been certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

News of the VR headset being certified by the FCC doesn't really do a lot to indicate how much closer the HTC Vive is to hitting the market, although it does ensure that it won't be slowed down by the issue any longer.

Aside from the headset, other components of the new item such as the Base Station, Link Box, and the Vive Controller have also been certified by the FCC, Phone Arena reported.

The HTC Vive has also made headlines recently due to reports of a "very, very big technological breakthrough," being made related to it.

News of the technological breakthrough came from HTC CEO Cher Wang. 

Wang indicated that the new breakthrough was significant enough that it was worth it for the company to forego meeting its expected first quarter launch date just so it could introduce the new technology properly, Engadget reported. Instead of the HTC Vive being released in the first quarter of 2016, the headset is now expected to debut in the second quarter of the year, most likely in April, and it will have the new technology available by then.

Unfortunately, even though the new breakthrough is expected to be quite significant, Wang has ultimately held off on revealing what it is for now.

HTC is now expected to debut the new technology for the VR headset in January 2016. Specifically, HTC is expected to showcase the new technology during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be taking place from Jan. 6 to 9 next month.

The January showcase will just be for the new tech that the HTC Vive will be sporting, as the actual release of the headset is still expected to take place in April.

Originally, the HTC Vive was scheduled to make its debut this year, before the aforementioned delays pushed it back into 2016, according to GSM Arena.

Folks eager to get their hands on the HTC Vive can already pre-order the new VR headset starting February 2016.
