HTC gave fans a sneak peek of its upcoming Vive virtual reality system at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show, establishing itself as one of the major players in the VR industry. However, reports surfaced that since the HTC Vive will be placed as a top-tier VR device, it might also come with a big price tag.

According to the Daily Mail, reports indicated that inside sources claimed HTC to be planning to release the Vive VR headset system with a price tag of at least $1,000 or even $1,500. The report added that should speculations about this price range be proven true, the HTC Vive would have a price tag bigger than those of its competitors. The PlayStation VR is rumored to be priced at $800 and the Oculus Rift is speculated to sell for $599.

However, should the HTC Vive indeed be priced at $1,500, overall expenses for would-be users could still rise since the Vive would need high-end specs for its computer stations in order to work in an optimized way.

Meanwhile, Android Authority maintained that those who have already set their eyes on the HTC Vive even before speculations on its price came out should not be surprised. According to the industry follower, when HTC announced the Vive VR system, the company stated that it has high hopes for the VR product and will be developing the Vive to be a high-end VR system. While HTC had not made any comments on its price when it was announced, the company also said that fans should expect the Vive to carry a hefty yet justified price tag.

HTC plans to open pre-orders for the Vive on Feb. 29 and have a general release for its consumer version in April.
