Huawei tries to maintain its foothold in the Chinese smartphone segment with the release of another mid-range phone in the Huawei G7 Plus.

The smartphone is the company's latest addition to its G-Series and is seen as slightly similar to another Huawei smartphone in the G8.

The new mid-range device succeeds the previous Huawei G7 handset from 2014, but will offer an improved display and as well as a more powerful processor.

It features a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display and will get its power courtesy of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, backed by 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Aside from that, the device will boast of a 13-megapixel main camera with dual-tone flash while a 5-megapixel front-facing camera should help out the folks who love to take those popular selfies. It will rely on a 3,000 mAh battery for its power up needs.

The Huawei G7 Plus is dual SIM capable and comes with the usual connectivity provisions for Long Term Evolution (LTE), Wi-Fi, Global Positioning System (GPS), and Bluetooth. As most phones coming out these days, the Huawei G7 Plus will offer a fingerprint scanner for added security.

The latest device comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box that is capped with Emotion UI v3.1, although the G7 Plus is likely to get an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update somewhere in 2016.

With regards to the materials used on the Huawei G7 Plus, the device comes in 90% metal with complimenting plastic-based panels on the rear. The phone measures about 152.5 x 76.5 x 7.5 millimeters and weighs only 167 grams.

The Huawei G7 Plus retails for about $330 (contract-free) and is available in three color variants — silver, grey, and gold. The device is already out in China and Thailand, while its possible debut in other regions has yet to be announced.
