Huawei has already announced its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Honor 7. However, the China-based company had not expected the kind of interest fans and Huawei users have shown for the product. In recent reports, the company has said that pre-orders for the handset have peaked at an unbelievable rate.

Speaking to tech site Android Authority, Lars-Christian Wiesswange of Honor Europe said that they have not expected the demand for the smartphone to reach unprecedented levels.

"Over 9 million people in China have already registered to buy the new Honor 7, which marks a great success of its popularity," he stated. "The demand for the Honor 7 was in fact so high, that the first stock of the handset sold out in just two minutes."

Meanwhile, Huawei is reported to be capitalizing on the success of the Honor 7 by opening the smartphone to the European market. Observers say that Huawei may plan on including the Honor 7 in its presentation at this year's IFA event to be held in September.

Confirming the smartphone's upcoming release in Europe, Frank Yao, managing director of Western Europe for Honor, stated, "We are very excited about this regional success and believe that Honor 7 will see a great response from users in Europe too, later this year. As a new flagship product of the Honor product family, honor 7 is bringing further innovation at an affordable price."

The Honor 7 is a slightly watered-down version of another Huawei flagship, the Ascend Mate 7. The new Honor has a 5.2-inch full HD display and an all-metal chassis, powered by an octa-core Kirin 935 processor and 3 GB of RAM. Some of its additional features include a 20 MP main camera at the back and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the rear panel of the device.

Although there has not been any announcements on when the new Honor 7 will make it to western shores, fans expect the new flagship to be released before the year ends.
