It is expected that Huawei will unveil the new Mate 9 flagship today. However, this close to the launch, speculations and supposed leaks keep on coming out about the new flagship.

The latest round of leaks points out that one confirmed version for the Huawei Mate 9 is a flat screen. According to GSM Arena, official-looking press renders out of Europe point out that the device may have a 5.9-inch flat display.

However, while a flat-screened Huawei Mate 9 may likely be confirmed by the images, it is still unclear if the new flagship will launch as a full lineup. Previously, it is said that Huawei is intending for the Mate 9 to be a full lineup, with a base model having a flat screen with full HD resolution. A step-up version will also allegedly come out, with the same dimensions, although the screen will display a much higher QHD resolution.

Recent reports shot down the idea, claiming instead that while the Huawei Mate 9 will launch with at least three iterations, all of the versions will carry flat screens. It is unclear if the step-up variant while having a flat display, will still have its rumored QHD display upgrade.

Meanwhile, although Huawei has yet to come out with confirmed details on the specs and features, it has already sent out a number of teasers that strongly hint on what fans can expect in the new flagship. Huawei has already made its newest homegrown chipset official, the Kirin 960, and it is expected that the processor will run the Mate 9. In addition, Huawei also teased a more powerful camera assembly for the upcoming flagship. This dovetails with supposed leaks that the Mate 9 will have Leica co-engineered optics, much like the Huawei P9. However, the dual camera setup is expected to get massive improvements, as rumors point out a 20 and 12 MP optics for the Mate 9's main shooter.
