Huawei has already unveiled its new Mate 9 series. However, only a premium version of the device, the Porsche Edition, made its debut with the base model. Speculations suggest that Huawei will unveil a China-exclusive addition, the rumored Mate 9 Pro.

According to GizmoChina, purported real-life images of the Mate 9 Pro have already circulated via the social media site Weibo. It shows the top-tier device sporting the dual-curved display, and it is expected that the handset will step up in specs and features as well. All in all, the Mate 9 Pro seems to be the Porsche Edition, stripped of its customization brand.

Should the hardware components for the Mate 9 Pro be the same in the rumored specs and features list, it is expected that the new flagship addition will sport a 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution. Under the hood, the Mate 9 Pro will feature the same Kirin 960 chipset as the base version. However, it is said that the step-version will carry 6 GB of RAM. In addition, there may two storage options, a 128-GB version and a 256-GB one.

Meanwhile, the Mate 9 Pro will also feature the same dual-cam setup with Leica co-engineered optics introduced in the Mate 9. However, based on the supposed leaked images, the Mate 9 Pro will sport its LED flash on top of the cameras, and the laser autofocus will be below the setup. In this redesign, Huawei has relegated the fingerprint scanner at the front of the device.

It is also expected that the Mate 9 Pro will come out with Android Nougat 7.0, so users can take advantage of VR support. Huawei has already confirmed that the lineup is Daydream VR-ready, though it is said that the support will come out as a patch update and not right out of the box.

Huawei will supposedly unveil the Mate 9 Pro today, though it is unclear if the debut will follow a global launch or if the step-up variant will remain a China-exclusive offer.
