According to Gadgets by NDTV, a Chinese website posted a report on Huawei having sent invites for an event on March 9 in Berlin. According to the website, the event is where Huawei plans to launch the P9 lineup.

While Huawei has yet to confirm if the P9 will indeed launch by next week, recent news already hinted that the upcoming P9 will release soon. Just recently, noted tipster Evan Blass – via VentureBeat – came out with first images of the new base model. Blass also reported that his source, "who requested anonymity, also shared full specs of the 5.2-inch, full HD handset."

Blass reiterated that based on the source, the earlier claims saying that the P9 is not just one model seems to be true. The source said that the P9 will be a full lineup of four versions, the expansion reminiscent of the previous P8 handset. Aside from the base model, the roll-out will also include a P9 Lite, a larger-screened version like the P8 Max – which may also be branded as the "Plus" version – and a premium model with higher specs than the base version.

For the base model, the source claimed that the P9 will carry Huawei's homegrown Kirin 950 chipset with 3 GB of RAM, while its premium variant will run on the Kirin 955 processor paired with 4 GB of RAM. While it is unclear what features will be highlighted in the different P9 versions, the base model is confirmed to carry the dual-cam, dual-lens setup in the main shooter. Meanwhile, it also looks like the whole P9 lineup will be featuring an all-metal, sleek unibody frame.
